Sometimes when we are in Pucallpa we can forget that we are in the middle of the rainforest since the footprint of this sprawling disorderly frontier city is so large. However, each weekend so far, we have gone on an excursion to remind us of where we are: whether it be today's morning excursion to a Shipibo Conibo village an hour away by boat (photo of Shipiba and wares above), last weekend's trip to a zoo with no less than 6 jaguars, or yesterday's visit to a private swimming pool with three spider monkeys chattering next to the monkey bars. The kids love these trips and I do too, since my inclination when down here is usually non-stop work. Having the family down here is allowing me to experience Pucallpa in an entirely new way.

Where's the jungle down here?
